GOAL

Integrate a holistic understanding of sustainability (social, environmental, financial, and health) into institutional decision-making and communicate the importance of sustainability at all levels of the institution.

PROGRESS

CSUSM improved its STARS rating from silver in 2017 to Gold in 2020.  For more information, check out the full STARS Report.

Sustainability and Climate Justice are now core values of the campus-wide strategic plan. They are integral components to the campus mission and vision. Throughout the campus strategic plan, you can recognize the importance of sustainability and climate justice as it is woven into campus wide goals.

In August 2023, President Neufeldt signed the Second Nature Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitment. This commits CSUSM to creating, developing and implementing a climate action plan with community partners. A focus of this plan is to commit to carbon neutrality and climate resiliency. Signing this commitment has come to fruition through the hard work and efforts of not only the Sustainability program but current and past students dedicated to creating a greener future.
