Writing Center

Life Writing

In the Writing Center, we see the transformative power of writing about one's life. We often work with students on memoir essays, personal statements, and other personal narratives. Working with writers to investigate the past and put it to the page is a humbling experience. Not only are these types of writing uniquely challenging at times, but they also offer intimate introductions to an otherwise stranger.

During the COVID-19 crisis, life writing projects are especially stirring and more important than ever. CSUSM's Together/Apart project seeks to collect and archive North County students' life writing in order to "preserve the record of day-to-day living of this critical moment in our nation's journey."
