At CSUSM, we believe that Orientation is not just a one day event; it is a process. The resources on this page have been created to help make your transition to CSUSM an easier one. Although the following Orientation Advising Presentations will be presented to you at your Orientation, Academic Advising encourages you to review it prior to attending to ensure your understanding of the content. If you find you have a question after you have reviewed the presentation, be sure to write it down so an Academic Advisor can answer it for you at your Orientation session. On the day of your Orientation, you will also be provided with information about majors at CSUSM as well as registration tools to help you build your schedule.
Do you want to get a head start on registration? Students will not be able to register for classes until after attending an Orientation. However, run and become familiar with your DEGREE PLANNER and the SCHEDULE ASSISTANT to know what classes you should register for and to build your class schedule. Note for Transfer Students and Students with Test Credit (AP, IB, etc.): Watch the tutorial videos now but WAIT until a few days before your Orientation date to put classes in your shopping cart to make sure your transfer credit has been applied to meet appropriate degree requirements.
Would you like to change your major before your Orientation? You can change your major when you reserve your Orientation session. If you have already reserved an Orientation session and then decide to change your major, you may do so in your Student Center in MyCSUSM. View this link for a quick tutorial on how to change your major: Change of Major or Minor Tutorial.
