Thomas Chu

Tommy Chu is a Burmese-American teaching artist from the Bay Area, CA. He was exposed early to Hip Hop culture through interactions with his much older siblings and was fortunate enough to find mentorship from the legendary Beatz N Piecez crew. He started consciously practicing Hip Hop over 15 years ago alongside his crew, Gorilla Warfare. Along the way, he graduated from SDSU with a B.A. in Psychology and has used his studies to advance his teaching artistry. He has danced with Culture Shock SD, co-directed Mini-Shock SD, and helped co-found SDSU’s Hip Hop cultural club known as Stateside Breaks. Tommy is an avid believer in the saying, “The more you wing it, the flyer you get” - which is why he enjoys the freestyle concept in Hip Hop.
