The Foreign Travel Insurance Program (FTIP) is mandated for traveling faculty, staff, and students participating in University sponsored trips (regardless of funding source). Safety, Risk & Sustainability currently covers the cost of premiums for employees and students traveling on approved University business. With the exception of student participation in an approved Study Abroad Program, foreign travel insurance shall not be procured from another source.
In most instances, your request will be completed within 10 business days. However, travel to high hazard areas will require additional approval from the Chancellor's Office. Please allow 30 days for your approving authority to submit the request to the President and subsequently coordinate the request through the Chancellor's Office. Request for insurance should not be submitted to SR&S without the necessary authorization. Please refer to instructions for additional information.
(Not required for travel to Puerto Rico)
Upon confirmation of FTIP coverage, the participant receives a "Foreign Travel Assist" card to carry while
traveling outside of the United States. The card provides the participant with procedures
to call "collect" and receive the benefits described below. The FTIP coverage provides the participant with assistance while traveling abroad, without
(in most instances) having to assume any "out-of-pocket" expenses.
