Wisdom Exchanges

Budha statueProfessional development is continuous learning. The Office of Success Coaching takes a community learning approach to identifying and sharing knowledge. Every Friday we offer “Wisdom Exchange” opportunities. We entertain formal trainings and development opportunities, stakeholder presentations and collaborative information exchanges from our team members. “Wisdom Exchanges” are meant to service as a “Community of Practice” and a chance for shared participation for all.

Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a concern, a set of problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis.

Seven Principles for Cultivating Communities of Practice

  1. Design for evolution
  2. Open a dialogue between inside and outside perspectives
  3. Invite different levels of participation
  4. Develop both public and private community spaces
  5. Focus on values
  6. Combine familiarity and excitement
  7. Create a rhythm for the community

In the end a “Community of Practice” is formed so that knowledge workers can engage in design thinking, problem solving, and collective learning. Building upon the theory of learning withing a social system, a “Community of Practice” allows for collaboration and self-determination to unfold naturally within a team.
