Justin Perron, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Physics, CSUSM
~ Faculty Representative, CSUSM Foundation

Justin PerronJustin Perron earned his PhD at SUNY University at Buffalo in 2012 after which he spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) before joining the CSUSM faculty where he is currently an Associate Professor of Physics. He is the principal investigator of the "QIST in the CSU: Expanding Access to Quantum Information Science and Technology" program. The goal of this program is to bring the emerging field of QIST into the undergraduate curriculum across the California State University system.  The program provides support to students through high school to university bridge programs, student learning communities, and summer research internships at national labs. In addition to student support, the program offers professional development to CSU STEM faculty, assisting them in incorporating quantum information concepts into their curriculum.  Justin is also a member of the Discovery Teaching Labs advisory board.

Justin is an experimental physicist whose research focuses on quantum technologies. Specifically, silicon quantum electronics and how quantum dots can be used for metrology and quantum information processing. He teaches a variety of courses across the physics curriculum at CSUSM at both the upper and lower division levels. He serves as a Faculty Director on the CSUSM Foundation Board.
