Care (Student Support)

As part of the Dean of Students Office and the Cougar Care Network (CCN), the Care Manager supports individual students by coordinating prevention, intervention, and support efforts to assist students experiencing crisis or other barriers impeding success. Thus, the Care Manager:

  • Mobilizes campus and community resources to maximize the person’s physical, social, and/or emotional well-being.
  • Maintains contact with students to assist with realization of student needs and goals.
  • Serves as a liaison in supporting students with navigating academic commitments and administrative procedures.  
  • Advises faculty, staff, and students regarding students who are disrupting the academic or co-curricular pursuits of other campus community members.
  • Collaborates with the Student Response Team to facilitate the health and safety of individuals and the campus.

Care Manager works with students experiencing:

  • Mental or emotional trauma or distress (e.g. death, loss, despair, suicide ideation)
  • Living concerns
    • Temporary housing – homeless shelters
    • Food and hygiene resources
  • Health or medical conditions/issues that may cause students to miss class for short or long term
  • The need for on-going support, possibly referred by multiple offices
  • Situations in which advocacy may be needed.
  • Navigating various student right procedures by supporting students with resources and development of their case/argument as part of assisting students with their physical, social, and/or emotional well-being. Those procedures may include:
    • Student Grade Appeals
    • Student Grievance
    • Student Fee Appeals
    • Withdrawals, Incompletes, Leave of Absence
    • Financial Aid Appeals
  • Disruption in class, co-curricular or other campus setting
  • Conflict and/or needing to establish boundaries with other students
