I was a Navy kid with three sisters who moved a lot.  I attended Bonita Vista HS, UCSD for my BA and credential, and MA at CSUSM in Ed Admin.  I was hired at Rancho Buena Vista High School and worked 17 years teaching English, four years as the assistant principal, and now three years as principal at Roosevelt.  I have been married 22 years and have two boys, the youngest will be a high school sophomore, and the oldest is going to UCSD this fall.

1. What was something that you learned that you carry with you in your current position?

From my program at CSUSM, I learned the importance of equity and access; cultural proficiency.  This was so aligned with my own beliefs and has guided me in my decision-making experience as a school leader.  I found the field study assignments to be valuable, authentic, job-embedded, and an opportunity to learn with immediate application to my role as an emerging leader.

2. What is something you recently accomplished?

When I started at Roosevelt Middle School, we adopted Artful Learning, an instructional framework for all grades and classes.   This was a large shift in our school and we are nearing the end of a three year implementation plan.  It is challenging now with the school closures to collaborate and have similar learning opportunities in a virtual way.

3. What is something we might not know about you?

I am really good at playing pool. I also love to attend theater shows and musicals.  Most recently I saw Mean Girls and Be More Chill.
