Butoh/Katsuro Kan Performance
Friday, February 15th - 7:00 pm:
Internationally known Master Butoh artist Katsura Kan appears with students in a riveting performance, culminating a three-week residency in the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Butoh is a revolutionary dance which emerged from Post-WWII Japan and described by Kan as the "surrealism of the flesh."
El Alcalde de Zalamea Performance
Sunday, March 2nd - 7:00 pm:
El Alcalde de Zalamea (The Mayor of Zalamea), one of the greatest works of Spanish classical theater, will be performed by 2RC Teatro, a repertory theater company from the Canary Islands (Spain). Written in the 1630's by the world famous Spanish playwright Pedro Calderon de la Barca, the play weaves together a riveting tale of power, politics, family relationships, and honor. 2RC Teatro has entertained and amazed audiences throughout Spain, and will make its U.S. debut in San Marcos! World premiere of a play adapted from oral histories done by NLRC's Arcela Nuñez with North County Latino residents. Written by Jose Cruz Gonzales, directed by Judy Bauerlein.

North County is a new play commissioned by California State University,
San Marcos Visual and Performing Arts Department. North County is inspired by the Al Norte de San Diego Latino History Project interviews. The play captures the many diverse and unique communities that reside in north county. It is a play about culture, clashes, commerce, dreams and desires.
Commedia Del Arte Play/Workshop Showing
April 17th & 18th- 7:00 pm:
This play will be the results of a workshop with Marco Luly, Artistic Director of Compania Luoghi del Arte, a theatre company specializing in commedia del arte, a physical style of theatre originating in Italy, that has exerted considerable influence upon modern day comedy. This work entails the use of specialized movements and masks. Our program acquired commedia del arte masks and offering this workshop offers our students and people from the community first hand exposure to this specialized and unique form of theatre.
