Accessibility Statement

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) — applies to csusm.edu

Our Commitment 

The California State University (CSU) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including individuals with disabilities. In alignment with CSU Executive Order 1111, persons with disabilities must be afforded services in an equally effective manner or provided reasonable accommodations to participate in University programs, services, and activities in ways that are equal to those afforded others. 

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and California Government Code §11135 establish requirements to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to programs, services, activities, and information and communication technology. These federal and state laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability and require public institutions to provide access in an equally effective manner. 

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Final Rule updating regulations for Title II of the ADA formally adopts the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as the accessibility standard for web content and mobile applications provided by state and local governments. The CSU aligns its digital accessibility efforts with this standard to ensure consistent, inclusive access for all users. 

Conformance Status 

csusm.edu is currently partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. 
Accessibility is integrated into our institutional practices through: 

  • Inclusion of accessibility in policies and governance; 
  • Integration of accessibility requirements into procurement processes; 
  • Ongoing accessibility training for faculty and staff; 
  • Clearly defined accessibility goals and assigned responsibilities; and 
  • Regular automated and manual accessibility testing. 

Assessment and Ongoing Improvements 

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. Automated accessibility scans are conducted monthly and manual evaluations of web properties, including reviews with assistive technology, are conducted annually. Our assessment approach also includes developer self-evaluation, review by accessibility experts, feedback from assistive technology users, and/or third-party evaluations as appropriate. 

Accessibility monitoring and remediation are managed by the ATI team.

Systemwide Resources: CSU Accessible Technology Initiative 

The California State University Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) reflects the CSU’s ongoing commitment to digital accessibility across all 22 campuses. The ATI provides systemwide accessibility training, resources, and communities of practice where specialized knowledge and successful business processes and services are shared throughout the CSU.
