Provides an examination of American Indian communities, with special emphasis on southern California Indian communities. Introduces contemporary issues and concerns about tribal sovereignty, demography, welfare, education, economic development, environment health and wellness, cultural survival and cultural empowerment facing American Indians today. Applies the knowledge and analytical skills gained in the classroom to projects that address environmental, social and cultural issues within American Indian communities.
