APIDA Success Initiative

The Asian & Pacific Islander & Desi American (APIDA) Success Initiative strives to inspire and prepare all students for success at CSUSM with care and support. For our low-income, first-generation, and returning students - we are here.

As a Vietnamese American transfer student from San Diego, I've connected with students, faculty, and staff who have become endless supporters in my educational and extracurricular journeys. I encourage students to join clubs on campus to meet new people who will ultimately be a part of their own lifelong journeys.

The CSUSM Experience

CSUSM recognizes and honors the diversity of students with ancestral ties to Asia and the Pacific. At least 15% of enrolled CSUSM students have familial and cultural ties to the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, China, India, Korea, Laos, and more. Among Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) students, 1.4% identify proudly as Native Hawaiian, Guamanian or Chamorro, Samoan, Fijian, Tongan, and more (see "What does NHPI mean?"). Your presence matters!

Students choose CSUSM with minimal college advising, academic challenges in high school, units transferred from community college, caregiving responsibilities, military experience, and workforce employment or self-employment. CSUSM is proudly a first-choice university guided by student priorities for holistic success!

CSUSM offers practical curricula - often with ties to community and industry - and inspires all students to discover and pursue their career aspirations.
