Jeff Nessler is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. He teaches Motor Control/Biomechanics (KINE 301, 425).

Dr. Nessler was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at Cal Poly Pomona from 2006-2008.  In addition, he has taught courses for Pepperdine University, Chapman University, and Vanguard University.

Research

Dr. Nessler conducts Biomechanics and Motor Control related research at CSUSM. His research is focused on two main areas:

The control and mechanics of human walking, with an emphasis on rehabilitation following neurological disease. Much of his work involves the development and use of robotic devices that can 1) assist with the study of human movement, and 2) potentially be used in a clinical setting to facilitate rehabilitation. This work has been supported by grants from both the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

The human performance aspects of surfing, with an emphasis on the mechanics of the prone paddling stroke. Current research questions include the effects of wearing a wetsuit on paddling stroke trajectory and the influence of board volume on paddling efficiency. This work is in collaboration with Dr. Sean Newcomer and multiple CSUSM students. This work has also been supported by multiple partners from the surf industry.
