I joined the Sociology Department in the Fall of 2007 upon completing my doctorate at Texas A&M University. Prior to the doctorate, I studied mainly at community colleges on and off for 18 years to earn my undergraduate degree.

My research and teaching interests include racial and ethnic studies, critical criminology, critical police studies, critical immigration studies, sociology of law, critical race theory, sociology of knowledge, and qualitative methodology. I’m especially interested in racialization and criminalization processes in the criminal legal system, with my life’s work dedicated to the study of racial profiling.
