About Sharon Elise, Ph.D
Sharon Elise, Ph.D. left a position in Women’s Studies at Fresno State to join the faculty of CSUSM as Assistant Professor of Sociology in Spring 1994. Her teaching and research center on critical race studies, Black Studies, Black feminism, Intersectionality, women of color and sociopoetics. She has been active in the university and her discipline, and has held leadership positions in her department, college, academic senate, faculty union, and professional organizations. "Black Borikua"
Continuing ethnographic work on representations of Blackness in Latino culture, language and identity. Focus on Puerto Rico, working with sociolinguist Michelle Ramos Pellicia, (Associate Professor, Modern Languages) who is incorporating notions of the racialization of language.
“African American Campus Community Study”
Ethnographic study based on focus groups and individual interviews with Dr. Abumaye and Dr. Walkington, examines the status and everyday experiences narrated by members of the campus community at a Hispanic-Serving Institution, revisiting an earlier (2003) study on student and staff perceptions conducted when the campus was predominantly white.

Dr. Sharon Elise is a noted author, poet, and writer with her works having been featured in numerous publications.
