Ski and Snowboard Big Bear

Spend your Saturday skiing or snowboarding with CSUSM Campus Recreation! Located in iconic Southern California Big Bear, Snow Summit Mountain offers the best skiing and snowboarding in the region. You'll have no shortage of terrain this trip with over 400 acres, 10 lifts, and 33 runs. We will meet on Campus at 6:00am Saturday morning. We will depart for Big Bear at 6:30am and arrive around 9:30am depending and road conditions. We will then enjoy the day skiing, snowboarding, or playing in the snow! A list of what to wear can be found in the "What to Wear" section below.  

Please Note:
  • All sales are FINAL. Outdoor Adventures does not provide refunds. Please be sure to check your schedules and ask questions BEFORE registering for any excursion. 
  • Any student arriving late, resulting in missing the bus (departing campus OR Big Bear Resort), will be ineligible for a refund, no exceptions.
  • The trip leaders will NOT be responsible for teaching participants how to snowboard or ski. If you do NOT know how to snowboard or ski, please register for Option 1, which includes lessons from Big Bear Resort Instructors.

Our goal is to provide students with affordable opportunities to experience the outdoors in a variety of ways. We subsidize trip costs by 30%-55%. See above for cost-savings; some of these categories are estimated if we do not have actual cost (ex: gas cost).

  • Frequently Asked Questions
    • Can my friend/family register for this trip?
      • Only currently enrolled CSUSM STUDENTS are eligiable to register for OA Excursions. 
    • I have my own lift ticket, can I get a discounted rate?
      • At this time, we do not offer discounts for any student who already have lift tickets. The lowest price rate available to students is Option 3. 
    • Can I drive myself/get dropped off at the trip location?
      • Transportation for all trips is included. You are required to travel to and from the trip location with Outdoor Adventure staff in the CSUSM operated vehicles. No exceptions. Failure to adhere to university policies may result in becoming ineligable to participate in Outdoor Adventure excursion indefinitely in addition to a referral to the Dean of Students Office.  
    • Since this trip is off-campus, can I drink or smoke on this trip?
      • No, this is a university sponsored event and as such, is a substance and alcohol-free excursion. Failure to adhere to university policies may result in becoming ineligable to participate in Outdoor Adventure excursion indefinitely in addition to a referral to the Dean of Students Office. 
    • Will you or the resort provide clothing for the snow?
      • No. The rentals CSUSM are providing students with are the skis or snowboard, helmet and boots. Anything else you need such as goggles or snow wear will need to be acquired on their own.
  • What to Wear in Big Bear
    • Long underwear (wool, synthetic or silk material; avoid cotton!)
    • Light fleece or wool top
    • Ski or snowboard socks (wool socks)
    • Ski or snowboard jacket (waterproof/resistant)
    • Ski or snowboard pants or bibs (waterproof/resistant)
    • Gloves or mittens (waterproof and insulated)
    • Helmet
    • Goggles (can be substituted for sunglasses)
    • Neck gaiter or balaclava

    If you do not own any snow gear, we recommend the following: 

    1. Ask friends and family to borrow gear
    2. Look for items at your local secondhand store
    3. Shop for generic brands at your local super center or online
    4. Become a member at REI and shop their used gear section
    5. If you want to invest, opt in and buy quality gear once as to not have to purchase again
  • What Gear to Bring to Big Bear

    • Water bottle (water fountains are located though out the resort to refill)
    • Sunscreen
    • Chapstick or lip balm
    • Hand warmers (optional)

Please Be Prepared:

Our team will not have spare clothes or gear to provide students with outside of what's included in the rental package (skis/snowboard, helmet, boots).


All University programs require student participants to follow standards of the CSUSM Student Code of Conduct in order to ensure a safe, respectful learning environment. As the Policy states, “The University is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy living and learning environment for students, faculty, and staff. Each member of the campus community should choose behaviors that contribute toward this end. Students are expected to be good citizens and to engage in responsible behaviors that reflect well upon their university, to be civil to one another and to others in the campus community, and contribute positively to student and university life.” 

Failure to abide by these standards could result in becoming ineligible to participate in Outdoor Adventure programs indefinitely and a referral to the Dean of Students Office.
