Undergraduate Requirements
Whether you choose a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science, every baccalaureate degree requires completion of a minimum of 120 semester units. Some majors require more than 120 semester units. In addition, no more than 70 units may be transferred from a community college. For a Bachelor of Arts degree, at least 40 units must be in upper division coursework.
Every baccalaureate degree must include an approved major. You can learn more about majors available at CSU San Marcos on our Academic Offerings page.
In addition to general education and major-specific requirements, our undergraduate students will graduate prepared for a global environment. To that end, the University also requires:
- Competency in Writing
- Major-specific language requirement
- Competency in U.S. History, the Constitution, and American Ideals
