About Sara Bufferd, Ph.D

As of January 2020, I am on the faculty at the University of Louisville. However, I will continue to conduct research at CSUSM. I don't currently have any openings for research assistant positions, but you can check the Students tab for any updates! I will no longer be accepting graduate students at CSUSM.

I completed my Ph.D. in clinical psychology and was on the psychology faculty at California State University San Marcos from Fall 2012 through Fall 2019. My research interests lie within a developmental psychopathology framework.  I investigate factors that contribute to the onset and course of emotional and behavioral problems in young children, including temperament, psychosocial functioning, stressors, and parenting behavior. I am particularly interested in mapping normative and pathological psychological development of anxiety and mood dysregulation in preschool-aged children.

You are welcome to email me to check in at SBufferd@csusm.edu; you can also complete a Bufferd Lab Application if you'd like, and I can let you know if a position becomes available, but I recommend checking in with me before completing the application.

Graduate Students

I will no longer be accepting graduate students at CSUSM. You can check my current faculty page at the University of Louisville to see if I will be accepting graduate students there.

Letters of Recommendation

Please e-mail me at SBufferd@csusm.edu with a brief message informing me that you would like to request a letter of recommendation (include the general type(s) of program you are applying to and the earliest due date).
