     Beyond Marriage: Conversation about LGBTQ Equality

  • Join Anya Mukarji-Connolly, supervising attorney with the New York Legal Assistance Group’s LGBTQ Law Project, in a discussion of the health and economic disparities that impact low-income LGBTQ communities, and learn how these issues are seldom resolved by marriage-focused advocacy.

     Feminism is for Everyone

  • Discuss the different types of feminism and learn about their history. Compare and contrast different feminist theories and their impacts.

     Frederick Douglas: Self-Made Man

      April 9th • 6:00pm • USU Ballroom

  • Enjoy a play portraying the life of Frederick Douglas, the father of the civil rights movement, and "reconstructing the complexity and radiance of Douglass' spirit on his path to becoming the leader who inspired President Lincoln and others to hear him speak." There will be a reception and Q&A session after the play.

     Queer Discussion: Fetishization vs. Preference

     What makes you who you are? Self Affirmation Workshop

  • Learn how to apply self affirmation theory through self exploration.

     Bottomhood is Powerful

       April 16th • 5:30–7:00pm • SBSB 1102

  • Asian-American Masculinity & Sexual Representation
  • The presentation examines the ways that anal erotics and bottom positioning refract the meanings of race, gender, sexuality, and nationality in Asian/American visual culture. I argue that "bottomhood" simultaneously enables and constrains Asian-American men in moving-image media. Conceived as a sexual position, a social alliance, and an aesthetic form, bottomhood affirms a politics that embraces risk, receptivity, and vulnerability. Gay male video pornography and sex cruising websites constitute case studies. The talk will be supplemented by a short video screening. Light refreshments provided.

  • Join Dr. Tom English, President of TESSI Endangered Species Institute, with a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and a post-doctoral MS in environmental engineering for a talk on the science behind climate change!

     Helping Paws: Animal Shelter Day

      April 17th • 10:00–2:00pm • San Diego Humane Society and SPCA Escondido

  • Make a "pawsitive" difference at the animal shelter. Get free snacks and a chance to interact with the animals!

     Color Run: Color Out Hunger

       April 18th • 9:00am • CSUSM Cross Country Course

  • This is a 5K fun run, jog, walk, or whatever you prefer!  The 5K is a fundraiser for the North County Food Bank.  Registration is $5 plus a canned good.  You can register at Clark Field House up until April 14!

     Film Screening: The Burden

     Bystander Intervention in the LGBTIQ Community

  • Sexual assault occurs in LGBTIQ communities just as frequently (and in some cases more often) than to straight and cisgender people. Learn what it means to be an active bystander and your options to safely intervene. Explore the intersectional impacts of each type of intervention and determine the strategies that feel most comfortable for you to use. Walk away empowered with the skills to prevent sexual assault in your community.
