Cougar Baseball Shuts Out Patten in Sunday Double-Header

Coming off a rough 12-0 loss to Patten University on Friday, Cougar baseball extracted revenge on Sunday.  The team came out firing on all cylinders, winning game one 9-0 and game two 6-0.

Playing on Sunday at Vanguard University, Cougar baseball put forth a total team effort to sweep Oregon Tech.  The Cougars won game one 6-3 and game two 5-2.

May 6 -- Baseball:  Four Cougars Named to All-Conference Team

Four Cougar baseball players have been named to the Cascade Conference and regional grouping All-Conference team.  Catcher Scott Clement, designated hitter Dane Ponciano, third baseman Austin Coleman, and outfielder James Scott were all recognized for their outstanding seasons on Wednesday.  Congratulations to them!

After a tremendous run to the title game, CSUSM baseball was eliminated from the NAIA West Tournament in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday, losing a pair of games to British Columbia.  The Cougars got solid efforts from starters Johnny Holtman and Chris Skaalen, but British Columbia's pitching staff proved too much, allowing CSUSM's powerful offense just one run in 18 innings.  CSUSM finishes the year with a 27-16 record.

May 5 -- Baseball Wins Again!!

Cougar baseball will play in the championship game of the NAIA West Tournament tomorrow, thanks to their second thrilling victory in as many days.  CSUSM defeated Oregon Tech 7-6 on Tuesday, thanks in large part to Josh Miller's 4 RBI.  CSUSM will play British Columbia tomorrow.

May 4 -- Baseball Update:  Cougars Win Opener!

Third-seeded Cougar baseball opened the 2009 NAIA West Region Tournament with a thrilling 9-8 win over second-seeded College of Idaho on Monday!  CSUSM scored a run in the ninth to tie it up, and won it in the eleventh.

April 27 -- Baseball:  Azusa Pacific Gets Revenge

Cougar baseball suffered a tough loss in its final game of the regular season on Monday, as Azusa Pacific got revenge for a loss earlier this month, defeating CSUSM 21-6.

April 25 -- Cougar Baseball Scores 9 Touchdowns 56 Runs  in Double-Header Against La Sierra

Scott Clement's 14 RBI's led Cal State San Marcos to a double-header sweep of La Sierra.  CSUSM took game one 25-11, and went on to win game two 31-5.

April 22 - Baseball Splits with Vanguard

Cougar baseball was on the road Wednesday, earning a split with Vanguard University.  The Cougars took game one 7-4 before dropping game two 3-1.

April 17 -- Baseball Serving Lunch to Softball:  Pictures

Prior to the season, Cougar Baseball Head Coach Dennis Pugh and Softball Head Coach Kelly Warren held a friendly contest to see who could raise more money in their annual Phone-A-Thons.  The losing team would have to serve lunch to the winning team.  Softball won.

April 14 -- Cougar Baseball Upsets #14 Azusa Pacific!

Cal State San Marcos baseball battled against one of the best lineups in the NAIA and battled through 6 errors to pick up its biggest win of the season on Tuesday, defeating #14 Azusa Pacific 8-7 at Poway High School.

April 11 - Baseball Earns Split with Chapman

Facing the team currently ranked #15 in NCAA Division III, Cal State San Marcos baseball earned a hard-fought split with Chapman University on Saturday.  Chapman won game one 11-7, but the Cougars took game two 10-8.

Today's baseball game at Poway High vs. Chapman has been rained out.  The game will be made up as part of a double-header tomorrow at Chapman starting at noon.

April 7 -- Baseball Battles to Split with #18 Master's

Hosting the #18-ranked team in the NAIA, Cougar baseball battled to a split with Master's College at Escondido High on Tuesday, winning game one 6-5 before losing game two 14-9.

March 31 -- Baseball's Comeback Bid Against CSU San Bernardino Comes Up Short

Down 9-0 after three innings, Cougar baseball didn't stop battling, but ultimately fell to Cal State San Bernardino 11-9.

March 29 -- Miller, Wynne Brilliant as Baseball Gets Big Sweep of Oregon Tech

Finishing up a pivotal home series against Oregon Tech, Cougar baseball made it 3 out of 4 for the weekend, sweeping the Hustlin’ Owls at Poway High on Sunday.  CSUSM won game one 4-3 in extra innings, and rode starting pitcher Morgan Wynne to a 6-2 victory in game two.

Cal State San Marcos baseball hosted Oregon Tech on Saturday, splitting a hard-fought double-header.  CSUSM lost game one 11-7, but rebounded to win game two 6-2.

Cougar baseball finished off a season sweep of Sioux Falls on Wednesday, winning a night game at Poway High 9-5.  CSUSM is now 16-8 on the season.

Cougar baseball picked up a pair of home wins on Monday, getting solid hitting and excellent pitching to defeat Sioux Falls 12-5 and 8-1.  CSUSM is now 15-8 on the year.

Playing their second tough road game against a GSAC team in as many days, Cougar baseball fell 6-3 to Biola.

March 17 -- Baseball's Comeback Bid Falls Just Short, Loses 6-5 to #3 Point Loma
In what has become the norm between these two teams, Cal State San Marcos and #3 Point Loma played a super-close baseball game on Tuesday.  The Sea Lions got the best of this round, staving off a late charge by the Cougars to win 6-5.

March 15 -- Baseball Powers Its Way to Double-Digit Wins over Doane

Cougar baseball brought the lumber to Poway High on Sunday, scoring 32 runs in a double-header sweep of Doane College (Neb.).  CSUSM won game one 15-5, and took game two 17-7 to improve its record on the season to an impressive 13-5.

Cougar baseball and Doane College played a couple of tightly-fought games on Saturday, with each team winning one.  CSUSM won a game one slugfest 13-11, while Doane eked out game two 5-4.

A first-inning triple play set the tone, and an eigth-inning Scott Clement home run sealed a 4-3 home victory for Cougar baseball over Trinity International on Wednesday.

Scott Clement's three-run bomb in the eighth inning gave Cal State San Marcos a late lead at Biola, but the home team battled back to hand the Cougars a 5-4 loss.  CSUSM baseball is now 8-4 on the season.

Cougar baseball picked up an enormous win on Tuesday, going on the road to defeat Cal Baptist 11-10 in ten innings.  James Scott and Ricardo Moran homered in the tenth to put CSUSM ahead once and for all.

February 24 -- Holtman Goes the Distance in Big 9-1 Win over Point Loma

Cougar ace Johnny Holtman took matters into his own hands on Tuesday, going the distance in a huge 9-1 win at Point Loma.

For 8 innings on Monday, it looked like Cougar baseball was headed to its fourth straight win.  But San Diego Christian rallied for a four-run ninth, winning the game in walk-off fashion 8-7.

February 22 -- Baseball's Offense Explodes for 45 Runs in Double-Header vs. La Sierra

Sunday was a banner day for Cougar baseball's offense, as the team racked up 45 runs in a home double-header against La Sierra.  CSUSM won game one 19-4, then game two 26-3.

February 16 -- Baseball's Game at Azusa Pacific Postponed

Tuesday's game at Azusa Pacific has been postponed due to rain.  The game will be made up on April 27th at Azusa Pacific at 5:00 PM.

February 13 -- Saturday's Baseball Double-Header Cancelled

Due to Poway High's field being too wet and the expected rain this afternoon/evening, Saturday's home baseball double-header against Cal State Dominguez-Hills has been cancelled.  Coach Dennis Pugh is looking to reschedule it but no date has been set.  As of now, there is no change to the status of any of our other Athletics events this weekend.

February 12 -- Holtman Brilliant as Cougar Baseball Holds On to Win Home Opener, 7-6


Starting pitcher Johnny Holtman lived up to his status as the ace of the staff in Cougar baseball’s home opener on Thursday, and his team survived a ninth inning near-meltdown to defeat Vanguard 7-6.

Cougar baseball's ninth inning comeback bid on Wednesday came up just short, as the squad suffered its first loss of the season, 7-6 at Vanguard.  CSUSM is now 2-1 on the year.

Cougar baseball got its season off to a strong start, winning both ends of a season-opening double-header at Westmont.  CSUSM scored a ninth inning run to take the first game 4-3, and won the second contest 4-2.  The Cougars are now 2-0 on the year, while Westmont falls to 0-3.
