August 7 -- Dave Williams Named Head Softball Coach at Cal State San Marcos

Cal State San Marcos Athletic Director Tom Seitz announced Friday that Dave Williams will be the University's next Head Softball Coach.

June 15 -- CSUSM Announces Search for New Softball Coach
After two very successful seasons, Kelly Warren has stepped down as head coach of the Cal State San Marcos softball team. CSUSM has officially begun the search for a replacement.

May 28 -- Four Cougars Named to Softball All-Conference Team!

Congratulations to outfielder Alyssa Dronenburg, first baseman Lauren Nelson, and pitchers Brenna Sandberg and Melissa Lerno for being named to the 2009 A.I.I. All-Conference Team!

May 5 -- Cougar Softball Finishes Season Ranked #20

Cougar softball's season officially came to an end Tuesday, as the squad was not selected for an at-large bid to the 2009 National Championships. CSUSM finished its stellar season ranked #20 in the nation, with wins over teams that finished ranked #1, #4, #10, and #14 (4 times). Congratulations to the outstanding players and coaches on a great season!

May 3 -- Softball Finishes Runner-Up at A.I.I. Tournament!

Congratulations to Cougar softball for finishing as the runner-up at the first-ever A.I.I. Tournament! CSUSM took down #1 seed Simon Fraser 5-4 on Saturday, earning a spot in the championship game and a rematch against University of Houston-Victoria. While the Cougars would fall 9-4 in that game, it was still a great showing for Coach Kelly Warren and her team!

CSUSM is in the running for an at-large bid to the National Championships - information on that will be posted here when it is available.

May 1 -- Softball Stays Alive with Pair of Wins at A.I.I. Tournament

Cougar softball picked up a pair of wins at the A.I.I. Tournament today. CSUSM defeated LSU-Alexandria in the morning, and downed Lambuth 4-0 in the afternoon. They'll continue play tomorrow against top-seeded Simon-Fraser for the right to play Houston-Victoria in the championship.

April 30 -- UPDATE: Softball Wins Game One at A.I.I. Tournament!

Cougar softball picked up its first-ever post-season win today, defeating Lambuth (TN) 4-2 in their first game at the A.I.I. Conference Tournament. CSUSM will play again tonight. This site will be updated as more information comes in.

UPDATE 8:00 PM: Softball loses game two 2-1 to University of Houston - Victoria. CSUSM will play tomorrow against Louisiana State University - Alexandria at 2:00 PM local time to stay alive.

April 25 --Cougar Softball Closes Out Regular Season with Sweep of Hope International

In their final tune-up before heading to Georgia for the A.I.I. playoffs, Cougar softball looked in top form on Saturday, defeating Hope International 9-0 and 4-1.

April 21 -- Softball Upsets #1 Cal Baptist!

If anyone thought last year's win over Cal Baptist - ranked #1 in the nation at the time - was a fluke, Cougar softball backed it up today by knocking off the top-ranked Lancers once again.

#25-ranked Cal State San Marcos softball picked up a huge home win on Saturday, defeating #2 Point Loma 2-1 in extra innings in the front end of a double-header. Point Loma would take game two 4-2.

April 17 -- Baseball Serving Lunch to Softball: Pictures

Prior to the season, Cougar Baseball Head Coach Dennis Pugh and Softball Head Coach Kelly Warren held a friendly contest to see who could raise more money in their annual Phone-A-Thons. The losing team would have to serve lunch to the winning team. Softball won.

Cougar softball's four-game road win streak over GSAC teams came to a halt on Tuesday, as the squad dropped a pair of games at Biola, losing 1-0 and 6-1.

April 4 -- Softball Sweeps Azusa, Pushes Win Streak to Four

Heading into the home stretch of the season, Cougar softball appears to be getting hot at just the right time. They tallied a pair of wins over #21 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, winning game one 2-1 in extra innings and game two 5-0.

CSUSM is now 26-16 on the season and has collected four straight wins over ranked teams.

March 31 -- Softball Picks Up Huge Road Sweep of Concordia

Playing on the road against #11 Concordia, Cougar softball picked up a pair of huge wins on Tuesday. CSUSM won game 5-4, then got a run in the final inning of game two to pull out a 3-2 win. Cougar softball is now 24-16 on the season.

Coming off a big win over USD yesterday, Cougar softball was within a couple innings of a three game winning streak on Saturday, but it was not to be. The Cougars won game one at home over Vanguard 9-1, but lost game two 5-4.

For the second time in as many years, Cougar softball has earned a win over NCAA Division I's University of San Diego. On Friday it came in the form of a road split, with USD winning game one 4-2, and the Cougars taking game two 4-2.

March 24 -- Softball: Tucson Invitational Wrap-Up

Cougar softball spent last weekend in Tucson, Arizona competing at the Tucson Invitational. CSUSM went 4-3 at the event, and is now 20-14 on the year.

March 22 -- Softball Defeats Trinity Christian 8-0

In their third game of the day, Cougar softball defeated Trinity Christian 8-0 at the Tucson Invitational. Results from the other games will be posted when they come in.

March 20 -- Softball Slams Trinity Christian 15-0

Cougar softball continued to mash at the Tucson Invitational Friday Night, defeating Trinity Christian 15-0. This comes only hours after the Cougars beat Mayville 15-4. CSUSM is now 18-11 on the year. Box scores will be posted when they are available.

March 20 -- Softball Wins First Game at Tucson Invitational

Softball brought their bats to game one at the Tucson Invitational on Friday, defeating Mayville State 15-4. More results and (hopefully) box scores will be posted as they come in.

March 15 -- Softball Earns Two Victories at Redlands

#21 Cal State San Marcos softball traveled up to Redlands on Sunday and earned a pair of victories, 3-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two. The Cougars are now 16-11 on the season.

March 14 -- Softball Scratches Out Split with #20 Biola

For the second time in three days, Cougar softball lost the front end of a double-header to a tough GSAC school, but rallied back to win the second. On Saturday, the opponent was Biola, and the Cougars lost game one 2-1 before taking game two 4-3.

Playing a pair of tough road games at Hope International, Cougar softball earned a split. CSUSM lost game one 4-1, but rallied to win game two 4-0. The #21-ranked Cougars are now 13-10 on the year.

Following Saturday’s losses at CSU Dominguez-Hills, a motivated Cougar softball squad took the field on Sunday and responded with two overpowering wins against Dominican. CSUSM won game one 7-0 and won game two 10-2, invoking the mercy rule after five innings.

CSUSM Softball extended its win streak to six games on Tuesday, picking up a pair of close wins at Vanguard. The Cougars won game one 3-1, and game two 2-1.

Once 4-7, the #21-ranked Cougars now hold a 10-7 record.

March 2 -- Lerno K's 14, Sandberg 11 as Cougar Pitching Leads Softball to Sweep

Pitching was the name of game for CSUSM softball in a sweep of Bethany on Monday, as CSUSM ace Melissa Lerno struck out 14 in the first game, and Brenna Sandberg followed that up with 11 of her own in the second. The Cougars won game one 2-1 and game two 4-0.

Cougar softball broke its four game losing streak on Sunday, defeating Holy Names in both ends of a double-header. The Cougars won game one 6-0, then went on to win game two 4-1.

February 13 -- Nelson Powers Cougar Softball to Sweep of Concordia

First baseman Lauren Nelson provided the pop, and the Cougar pitching staff turned in an outstanding performance on Friday, as #21 CSUSM swept Concordia in front of the home crowd at Mission Hills High. The Cougars took game one 3-1 and followed that up with a 3-0 shutout in game two.

Alyssa Dronenberg's two home runs powered Cal State San Marcos past Azusa Pacific in game one, but a late-inning comeback in game two was cut short due to darkness on Tuesday. #21-ranked CSUSM took game one 6-4, and lost game two 2-1.

Tomorrow's softball home opener against Biola University has been RAINED OUT. The games will be rescheduled but a date has not been set yet.

Softball Drops Opener at Point Loma, Game Two Suspended Due to Rain

Cougar softball faced a tough test to open their season on Thursday, facing #2 Point Loma Nazarene on the road. CSUSM dropped game one 4-0, but were able to rally late to tie game two 4-4 before it was postponed in the sixth inning due to rain.
