Anthony Cuomo received his master’s degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Long Beach and his bachelor’s degree in Communication at CSUSM. While attending CSULB, he was awarded a graduate research fellowship with the Center for First Amendment Studies and was the “Outstanding Graduate Scholar.” Currently, he is the Director of Community Outreach & Development for the center. His master’s thesis examined how social media was used to support and oppose California education legislation requiring LGBT history to be incorporated into K-12 curriculum. He teaches oral communication (GEO) at CSUSM and public speaking at CSULB, where he has also taught interpersonal communication workshop. Mentoring relationships are very important to Anthony and he strives for a safe classroom environment, which fosters multiple perspectives, community engagement, professional development, and social justice.
