Pharmacy Technician

Program Overview

Train to be a professional pharmacy technician. Upon completion of this program, you are equipped to assist the pharmacist in filling prescriptions per a doctor’s orders. You also learn about ordering products and inventory control, as well as billing and receiving payments.

In this program, you explore the history of medicine, pharmacy law, ethics and regulatory agencies in addition to pharmacy practices, medication safety and alternative medicine. Upon successful completion, you will be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam or the National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT) exam.

The job outlook for pharmacy technicians is fantastic. In fact, there will be more than 34,000 new jobs in the field by 2024 (10-year growth projection, Bureau of Labor Statistics).

As a part of this program, you are required to complete an internship, which enables you to put into practice all that you have learned in the classroom. Student interns work in a professional setting under the guidance of a professional/mentor to gain hands-on experience. Prerequisites for securing an internship include proof of computer literacy, physical examination records and a drug screen.
