How to Apply

You must apply to the program through this website ONLY. To receive full consideration for admission, please read the instructions below carefully. We look forward to reveiwing your application and all supporting documents.

STEP 1: SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION TO CSUSM

A. Click the following link: MBt Program Application
B. Create your CSU Apply account
C. Complete your profile (write down your username and password to use at a later time)
          -Select "Graduate" for the level of degree you are seeking
          -
Select "Master's degree or higher" for the type of degree
D. Start your application
          -From the program selection page, select "Cal State San Marcos" as your campus of choice
          -Select the "Biotechnology" program under San Marcos Extended Learning
          -Follow instructions to complete all 4 quadrants of the program application
          -Once complete, submit your application. You will be prompted to pay a $55 non-refundable application fee.
 NOTE: Your application is not officially submitted until payment has been received. You will recieve a confirmation                email within 48 hours upon successful submission of your application. If you don't receive a confirmation email, log in to your CSU Apply account and ensure the status of your application is "Posted." Any other status indicates your application has not been successfully submitted to the university.

E. Program Materials Section
Upload the following items:
          -CV/Resume
          -A one-page personal statement describing applicant's reasons for pursuing the Biotechnology Program. Be sure to                include  information valuable to the Review Committee.
          -Official Score Report of the General GRE
Evaluations:
          -CSUSM requires each applicant to provide the full name and email address of two evaluators/references in                                 this section. At least one recommender should be from an academic source and one should be from a professional               source. The recommenders should be familiar with the applicant's capacity for academic and professional success.
NOTE: Once you have saved the evaluation request, an email request will be sent to the evaluator on your behalf.

STEP 2: SUBMIT OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS TO CSUSM

In addition to submitting the University application and application fee, you must request and submit one official transcript from each academic institution attended.

Electronic delivery is the preferred transcript delivery method. Verify with your school if an electronic transcript is available. Electronic transcripts can be provided through external or third party vendors (Credential Solutions, eTranscriptCA, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, etc.). When ordering your transcript, please choose California State University San Marcos as the intended recipient from the school name dropdown. If California State University San Marcos is not listed, please use transcripts@csusm.edu as the recipient email address.

If you select to mail your transcript, all official transcripts must be mailed or delivered in sealed envelopes to the address below. *NOTE: Official transcripts from foreign institutions MUST be sent through postal mail.

Revised/New Transcripts: Students submitting updated transcripts or transcripts from institutions not listed on the original application should email el@csusm.edu to indicate the transcript has been sent. Please include your full name, the school from which the transcript was sent and the program name of MBt.

International students: You must submit academic records from foreign institutions.  The original foreign transcript must be on file and if they are not written in English, they must be accompanied by certified English translations. Official transcripts from foreign institutions MUST be sent through postal mail to the address listed above.

STEP 3: SATISFY ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT:
(APPLICANTS WHO HAVE TAKEN COURSEWORK INTERNATIONALLY ONLY)

All applicants, regardless of citizenship, who do not possess a bachelor's degree from a postsecondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement. Typically, applicants demonstrate the English Proficiency requirement by submitting results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. Submission of these test scores should be sent to the following address:

*NOTE: We encourage applicants to submit the documents listed above in one packet; however, we understand this may not be possible. Please review your Student Center at
