California State University San Marcos' Student Health and Counseling Services Department (SHCS) is offering a one year full-time post-doctoral fellowship in counseling psychology.  This fellowship begins August 18, 2014, one week prior to the first day of classes for the Fall 2014 semester.  Post-doctoral fellows devote their time to providing short-term individual, couple/family, group counseling to students presenting with developmental, personal, and academic concerns.  Fellows also provide consultation to staff and faculty; participate in the development and presentation of psycho-educational workshops, guest lectures, special events, and other education and outreach activities for the campus community, SHCS staff and pre-doctoral interns.  The administrative duties include record keeping and scheduling continuing appointments with clients.  Duties will also include providing emergency coverage and crisis intervention.  Post-doctoral fellows will participate in supervision activities weekly.  Supervision activities include individual supervision (at least 10% of their hours worked or 4 hours per week/40 hours), weekly group supervision meetings, and attendance in weekly training seminars and attendance at all clinical staff meetings and weekly psychiatric case consultation meetings.  This fellowship is designed to provide comprehensive training experiences targeted at assisting fellows in strengthening their diagnostic and clinical skills and integrating these skills into their professional identity.

Minimum requirements for the position include:  Candidates must have completed all of the requirements of a terminal degree in an accredited Ph.D. or Psy.D. program not later than August 26, 2014.  Candidates must have experience conducting time-limited psychotherapy, long term therapy, crisis intervention and psychological assessment.  Candidates must have demonstrated experience in providing cross-cultural counseling.

Preferred requirements:  Candidates with some university/college counseling experience preferred.  Preferred candidates will have an expertise in women’s issues, diversity, cross-cultural counseling, health psychology, eating disorders or sexual orientation.  Fluency in Spanish and knowledge of Latino culture strongly preferred.  Familiarity with electronic counseling scheduling and documentation program/system.
