Chemistry Placement Exam (CPE)

*Due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), all on-campus exams are CANCELLED. As of  April 3, 2020 the CPE has officially been postponed for the rest of the year 2020. Since the CPE is now postponed, students will be allowed to register in CHEM 150 without the CPE and also without a minimum grade of C or better in CHEM 101 and or CHEM 105.

If a student has not completed CHEM 101 or 105 with a grade of C or better, they must take the CPE and attain a passing score prior to being allowed to enroll in CHEM 150. If an incoming student has taken the AP exam, but will not have scores reported until the summer, it is recommended that the CPE be taken.

The exam will be offered multiple times prior to registration, but a student will only be allowed to take the CPE once. At this point, there is no charge for taking the exam, but it is required that a student register for a specific exam date. The number of spots for each date will be limited and no walk-ins will be accepted.
