Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences has partnered with Extended Learning to offer the Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

What is GIS?

Program Overview:

Geospatial analysis is a valued skill set for many positions in government, academia, and the private sector. The Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allows students to supplement their prior GIS training with coursework in data analysis, geovisualization, mapping and applied research. The purpose of the certificate is to impart the extended technical and leadership skills required for implementing GIS and related geocomputational techniques in real world applications. This stackable certificate comprises four courses in advanced GIS, ethics and decision making, and geovisualization. Proficiency in basic GIS skills is required for entry into the  program, and may be demonstrated through ESRI online training, a GIS certificate (similar to the one provided at Palomar College and other institutions), and/or on-the-job training.
