NURS 233 333: Nursing Care of Children Laboratory

The School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our pool of part-time lecturers for to teach NURS 233 - Nursing Care of Children Laboratory and/or NURS 333 - Nursing Care of Children for Accelerated BSN Students Laboratory. Clinical hours and clinical sites vary within San Diego County and Riverside County.  Salary is commensurate with credential and experience.

Course work emphasizes developing skills in nursing assessment, diagnosis, and intervention toward achieving healthy outcomes for children and their families.

Objectives will include (1) Performing complete assessments on patients while  in an inpatient setting in a major hospital and/or in community based setting,  (2) Assessment of children and adolescents correctly identifying (a) normal and abnormal findings, and (b) relevant diagnoses and collaborative problems, (3) Assesses the psychosocial and learning needs of children and family members (4) Anticipates potential common complications in the children and adolescents by implementing appropriate preventative measures and assessments aimed at early detection, and (5) Participates in coaching and comfort measure for children and their families during acute and/or chronic illness.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BSN
  • Experience either teaching pediatric nursing or work experience in pediatric nursing.
  • Applicants must have State licensure by California Board of Registered Nursing, be approved to teach in Pediatric Nursing and meet the School of Nursing’s requirements regarding current immunizations and CPR licensure.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MSN or Ph.D. in Nursing
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
