Open Enrollment for 2021

Open Enrollment begins September 21st and ends October 16th, 2020

Open Enrollment has ended and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended and visited this years Virtual Benefits Fair.

As a reminder benefit changes take effect 1/1/2021.  Health Plan Carriers will issue new cards at the beginning of the plan year.  If you're changed health plan carriers, please do not continue with your previous carrier, after December 31, 2020.

Lastly, please be sure to review your December and January Pay Warrants to ensure your benefit deductions are reflecting correctly.

There is nothing required to do, if you do not wish to make any changes to your current medical benefits. Your current elections for these plans will automatically continue for the 2021 Plan Year.  However, you must re-enroll every year in a Health Care and /or Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA and/or DCRA).

Note: Enrollment in any of the above benefit plans are restricted to Open Enrollment only, unless, a qualified event mid-year has occurred.

Health Plans

Your health plan benefits are provided in partnership with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).

Full details on health plans and changes are available at calpers.ca.gov. For CalPERS Health Plan Statements and direct access to all CalPERS Open Enrollment information as well as changes that are pertinent to you, visit my.calpers.ca.gov.  CalPERS members may also access Open Enrollment information on their new mobile devices application at mobile.my.calpers.ca.gov.

Health Plan Rate Changes

Effective January 1, 2021 rates for most health plans will change.  Refer to the 2021 Health Premium Rate Sheet.

Health Plan Expansion

Blue Shield Trio is expanding its service area to include Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura Counties

Health Plan Reminders

  •  You will receive new health plan ID cards if you change your health plan or enroll for the first time.
  • If you change plans during Open Enrollment and you do not see the correct deduction applied by your February pay warrant, contact the HR Benefits Office at hrbenefits@csusm.edu
  • If you change health plans, do not continue to use your previous health plan after December 31, 2020.

Dental Plans

The CSU pays 100% of the monthly premium cost for dental coverage for you and your eligible dependents.

When it comes to choosing a dental plan, you want benefits to fit the needs of you and your family. Delta Dental PPO and DeltaCare USA both offer comprehensive dental coverage, quality care and excellent customer service.  For information on the offered plans, please go to  deltadentalins.com/csu.

Delta Dental PPO Plan Enhancement Reminders

  • Diagnostic and Preventative services (ie. cleanings and exams) will not count against your annual maximum. This benefit does not apply if you visit a Delta Dental Premier or non-Delta Dental dentist.
  • SmileWay Wellness Benefit is an enhanced coverage for higher risk employees. Employees with certain qualifying diagnosed medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis or stroke) are offered expanded coverage.  In order to use this great enhancement, you will need to "Opt In" to the SmileWay program.  Information on how to "Opt In" can be found on the flyer's below:

Value-Added Features from Delta Dental

  • Hearing Aid Discounts -  Amplifon Hearing Health Care offers discounts on top hearing aid brands offering a 62% average savings off retail hearing aid pricing with a choice of leading hearing aid brands and thousands of hearing care providers.  To enroll visit amplifonusa.com/deltadentalins or by calling (888) 779-1429.

Vision Plans

Vision plans are offered through Vision Service Plan (VSP). The CSU provides Basic vision insurance automatically for eligible employees and their families at no cost to the employee.  During Open Enrollment, employees have the option to upgrade to an enhanced plan (VSP Premier Plan) for a small monthly cost.

For more information and how to enroll in the Premier Plan, review the VSP Benefits Summary and go to csuactives.vspforme.com/  (Please note: if you upgrade to the Premier Plan, you must also enroll any dependents you wish to have vision coverage, otherwise they will lose their coverage.)

Flexible Spending Account Reminder

All Employees must complete the 2021 Dependent Care/Health Care Reimbursement Account Plans Enrollment Authorization form to enroll in either program for 2021 regardless of participation in 2020. The maximum annual contributions for HCRA will increase to $2,750. DCRA remains the same at $5,000.

As well, over-the-counter medications will no longer need a prescription, per the CARES Act with a retroactive date of January 1, 2020.

New to the HCRA plan, all first time HCRA participants will be issued 2 ASIFlex Visa Debit Cards, which can be used to pay for qualifying expenses.  There is no cost for the cards and applications are no longer required. 

Employees who currently have a valid ASIFlex Card may continue to use their current card until it expires.
