Faculty Participation

LAEP employment positions are open to ALL disciplines. Faculty mentor/supervisors will determine the position's requirements. Faculty then submit a LAEP Position Proposal that will be reviewed by the LAEP committee and then forwarded for final approval. 

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION
Fall 2023:  Thursday, October 12th @ 5 pm 
Spring 2024: Thursday, February 8th @ 5 pm

NEW: Thursday, May 9th @ 5pm.

The May deadline is for NEW position proposals (to hire students at the start of the fall semester) or to adjust the pay range of previously approved proposals.There will also be another deadline for position proposals in October. 


PLEASE NOTE:
* Only one proposal per faculty member.
* If your proposal was approved in the Fall, there is no need to resubmit.  
* For academic year 2023-24 (August-May), the maximum amount a student can earn through LAEP is $6000.

To participate in the program, a faculty supervisor must: 

  • Provide a direct opportunity for the student to participate in study research offered by CSUSM within the student’s area of study, career objective, or exploration of career-related employment
  • Supply faculty supervision 
  • Adhere to the LAEP Faculty / College Employer Agreement 
  • Complete a survey of the experience

Students that Qualify for LAEP

  • Demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid office
  • Are pursuing their first undergraduate bachelor's degree
  • Are eligible to work in the United States and be a California Resident 
  • Are enrolled in at least half-time during the semester
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), as defined by CSUSM
  • May not work more than 20 hours a week during the academic year
