CCC-CSU Transfer Collaborative

The time for transfer change is now; California's students and their futures depend on it

Only 10% of CCC students intending to transfer reach that goal within four years, and 19% do so within six years*.  Data also make clear that the barriers to transfer are far too high for many students, creating highly inequitable outcomes for students of color, first generation students, and students from low-income backgrounds. The Collaborative’s vision makes clear its commitment to improving these outcomes:

The CCC-CSU Transfer Collaborative aspires to develop a national model for transfer success. In partnership with K-12,the Collaborative aims to make transfer to a CSU an attainable option for all California students. Our vision builds upon intersegmental connections with a constant focus on enhancing student transfer success. Central to this vision is our unwavering commitment to prioritizing students’ needs and aspirations.

The Collaborative has engaged in an in-depth look at all things transfer to identify transfer challenges that impact significant numbers of students. The goals of this grant include identifying transfer challenges and their causes, uncovering systemic barriers, generating sensible solutions, and elevating the findings and recommendations to CCC and CSU leaders and government entities across California.

These recommendations are the result of the support and collaboration of over 150 invested faculty and staff from 17 of California’s community colleges and state universities. Their commitment to California’s transfer students deserves the attention and respect of all who can impact the future of these recommendations. When transfer excels, California higher education and the state of California excel. Even more, individual students and their families win in perpetuity. The Collaborative believes that cross-segmental collaboration at this level brings new opportunities in how work is funded, solutions are developed, and students are supported.

If you are a stakeholder in transfer success work in California, the Collaborative encourages you to seize this opportunity to elevate solutions truly aimed at improving the students’ transfer journey.

Our hope is that this report supports you in doing that work!
