Week 4: Cybersecurity at CSUSM

Multifactor Authentication

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is coming to CSUSM in 2019!  MFA is a method used to provide additional security to your CSUSM account.  Authentication generally relies on one of the three following factors:

  • Something you know, like your account password
  • Something you have, like a rotating access token
  • Something you are, like your fingerprints or other biometric indicators

Multifactor authentication takes advantage off at least two of the three of these factors to ensure that your account is secure.

For more information on MFA at CSUSM check out the Multifactor Authentication page from the Helpdesk.

Information Security Awareness Training

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure our community has the tools and knowledge necessary to combat the ever evolving, we are working with the Chancellor's Office to provide new and updated Information Security Awareness Training through SumTotal.  Be on the lookout for this new training coming early 2019!

Data Classification Survey

The IITS Data Classification Survey is a key tool in the fight against cybercrime.  This survey aims to discover who, what, where and how our campus stores confidential data.  The Information Security Office will use your responses to this survey as part of the a CSU-wide effort to assess the risks to the confidentiality, availability and integrity of the data we handle.  Be on the lookout for an email with a link to your personalized survey coming soon!
