Join the Department of Service Learning to connect, learn and reflect on the virtual Service Learning projects completed this past year. We invite students, community partners and faculty to nominate award recipients.

The Service Learning Showcase and Awards celebrates outstanding service-learning projects and trailblazers for their contributions to community engagement at CSUSM. In addition to poster presentations and monetary awards, the event provides space for students, faculty, staff, and community partners to network and foster future connections. 

Student presenters that attend Reflective Poster Presentations workshop (with presentation outline) will have (up to 10 participants) their poster cost covered by the Department of Service Learning.

  • Students - Apply to Present Your Service Learning Project at the Showcase!

    Students apply to present your service learning community project individually or with your group at the provide 2023 Service Learning Showcase and AwardsThe Showcase serves as an opportunity to highlight student’s engaged-learning and reflection on how their work benefits the common good. 

    • The first 10 people (individual or group) to Apply to Present at the Showcase will have their poster printed by the Department of Service Learning. 
    • Presenters are required to attend the Reflective Poster Presentation workshop, to assist in developing their poster and presentation notes. 
    • If you are not able to attend the Reflective Poster Presentation Workshop on April 7, email the Department of Service Learning to find a time to meet with a team member: servicelearning@csusm.edu 
    • Apply to Present at the 2023 Service Learning Showcase and Awards and Register to Attend the Reflective Poster Presentations Workshop

    Trailblazing Student Leader of a Service Learning Course Project (2 awards)

    • Application Questions
        • How did the student service benefit the agency, community and/or agency’s clients?
        • How did the student demonstrate their understanding of course material in a community setting?
        • Why is this student deserving of the Trailblazing Student Leader Award?

    Outstanding Service Learning Faculty (1 award )

    • Application Questions
        • Describe how the instructor's course design integrates academic learning with community learning to enrich the learning experience, promote civic responsibility & strengthen communities.
        • How did the faculty member prepare/guide students to have the most enriching experience possible in the community?

    Stellar Service Learning Community Partner (2 awards)

    • Application Questions
        • How has service learning benefited this organization?
        • How has the organization contributed to student academic learning and/or promoted student civic responsibility?
        • Describe what the organization could do with the award money.
