Women at War

November 7-10 • 7pm • Arts 111

What happens when women engage in combat? Does it change the way we engage in conflict? What does it uncover about expected gender roles? How does it impact men and women deployed to a part of the world where women have no voice?

‘Women at War’ is a play devised from interviews with women in the US Army's Female Engagement Team, deployed to Afghanistan in 2012-2013. The team's mission was to engage with the women in the local Afghan population in order to build relationships and gather intelligence. The play uses the stories of the women of the unit to connect the lives of women in the western, developed world with the women in Afghanistan, giving them a voice in a world that often denies them one.

This production is supported by the CSUSM Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) Grant and CSUSM Theatre.
