Adding Videos on OU Campus

Video Requirements

Before adding a video to your page, videos legally must be

  • Accurate: Captions must match the spoken words in the dialogue and convey background noises and other sounds to the fullest extent possible with punctuation.
  • Synchronous: Captions must coincide with their corresponding spoken words and sounds to the greatest extent possible and must be displayed on the screen at a speed that can be read by viewers.
  • Complete: Captions must run from the beginning to the end of the program to the fullest extent possible.
  • Properly placed: Captions should not block other important visual content on the screen, overlap one another or run off the edge of the video screen.

Fill out the Captioning Request Form if captions are not already implemented. There is no cost to your department for having your video captioned.

Adding a Video to Your Page

  1. Navigate to the page that is intended to host the Youtube video.

  2. Select Main Content to begin editing content area.

  3. Click to the area on your page that you would like to add a Youtube video.

  4. In the toolbar, click the snippet (second row, near the right) -OR- the gadgets on the top-right of your page to open the side bar.  Click the Snippets header to expand.

  5. Select Youtube from the Snippets menu.

  6. The snippet will be added to your page. It will look like a table: Youtube table

  7. Fill in the table provided with the URL of the Youtube video, the Title of the video, an optional start time, and if the video is Accurately Captioned.

  8. Click save in the toolbar to save your changes.

  9. Once saved, the Youtube video snippet will transform from a table into an interactable video.

  10. Publish the page to apply the video to the live site.
