Kinesiology refers to "the study of human movement." The increasing societal concern for the physical well-being of the American population, rekindled by the 2001 Surgeon General Call to Action to Prevent and Decrease Overweight and Obesity has sparked renewed interest in the study of physical education and kinesiology.
The B.S. in Kinesiology with an option in Health Science at Cal State San Marcos is designed for San Diego area and southwest Riverside County students interested in professional service in public health, health/fitness education and promotion, wellness coaching, health research, and community health advocacy and programming. Graduates will be skilled in promoting positive, personal behavior changes that have an impact on the health of individuals and their communities. Graduates will be well-prepared to pursue graduate programs in public health, kinesiology, and health science in greater San Diego. Many of our graduates have even chosen to enter the accelerated bachelor of science in nursing program to earn a second baccalaureate degree.
As a program, we are committed to providing our students individualized attention by keeping class size under 35 students. The cohort-based model utilized at the Temecula campus via Extended Learning will guarantee each admitted student a seat in every class in the major according to the 2-year program cycle. Our new Human Performance Laboratory provides students a state-of-the-art facility in which to learn and conduct hypothesis-driven research for projects in several kinesiology classes. It's a good time to be a Kinesiology major!
A cohort is a group of students who work through a curriculum together to achieve the same academic degree. Because they are accepted into the same program, take their classes together, and graduate together, students in cohorts tend to form a strong support system and professional network that benefit them during their degree program and beyond.
