SUAVE
(Socios Unidos para Artes Via Educacion—United Community for Arts Education)
Since 1994, SUAVE was a leader in the realm of professional development, matching professional artists (art coaches) with teachers to implement arts education, both as core curriculum and as a vehicle for teaching other subjects. SUAVE also had a long history of documented success in teaching diverse student bodies, including English Language Learners and low income and “at-risk” youth.
The recipient of a Federal DOE Model Arts Grant, numerous California Arts Council and California DOE grants, and research grants from the Spencer and MacArthur Foundations, SUAVE exemplified Center ARTES’ innovative and effective programming.
Please visit our Curriculum Archives for extensive examples of lesson plans created by teachers in collaboration with SUAVE arts coaches.
