myCSUSMEligibility & Registering
Applying to graduate is separate from registering for Commencement.
-
Applying to Graduate (to receive your diploma): Completed through MyCSUSM.
-
Registering for Commencement (RSVP to participate in the ceremony): Completed through Tassel.
Students must complete both steps if they plan to participate in Commencement and receive their diploma.
There are several steps to ensure you are eligible and prepared to graduate and participate in commencement. Through MyCSUSM Student Center, you can review your Academic Requirements Report (ARR), verify your preferred name and mailing address, check for any outstanding fees, and apply to graduate.
Updates to your name, graduation term, and other academic records are managed by the Office of the Registrar, which serves as the primary office for student record updates. To ensure your graduation term is accurate, students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor before submitting their graduation application.
Register to Attend Your Ceremony
Students must first apply to graduate through MyCSUSM. The Office of the Registrar reviews graduation applications at the end of the graduation term indicated on the application. Once your degree has been conferred, you will receive a confirmation email sent to your @csusm.edu email account. A copy of this message will also be available in the Communications Center within your MyCSUSM Student Center. Students will not receive additional updates from the Office of the Registrar until their degree has been officially conferred.
The Commencement Office separately identifies students who have applied to graduate and invites eligible graduates to register for Commencement. Eligible students will receive their Commencement registration link via their @csusm.edu email address.
After the initial invitations are sent, the Commencement Office will review new graduation applications each Friday. Students who apply to graduate after the initial notification will receive their Commencement registration link once they appear on the weekly eligibility report.
If a student applies to graduate after the Commencement registration deadline, they must email the Commencement Office to inquire about participation in the ceremony.
Students are responsible for regularly checking their CSUSM email (including spam/junk folders) and reviewing the Commencement website for important updates and deadlines.
Accessing your Tassel Account
Commencement registration and guest ticket management are completed through Tassel. Eligible graduates will receive a personalized registration link via their @CSUSM email.
In Tassel, graduates will:
- Register for their Commencement ceremony
- Access their StagePass (digital ticket)
- Claim and manage guest tickets
Your Tassel account is specific to Commencement and is not connected to any of your CSUSM logins. Your Tassel link is a unique link that should not be shared with others, as it is associated with each graduate’s individual information.
Guest tickets are digital and only accessible after the graduate submits their commencement registraiton form. Graduates are responsible for sending tickets directly to their guests. Guests may print or save their ticket for entry.
Please review the Tassel PDF guide (login with your csusm credentials to access) or watch the Tassel video tutorial for step-by-step support if you need assistance with:
- accessing your Tassel account
- registering for commencement
- downloading you StagePass
- managing guest tickets
If you are still experiencing any issues accessing your Tassel account, please email the Commencement Office.
