Student Records

FERPA defines a student record as any record (handwriting, print, tapes, film or other medium) maintained by a CSUSM staff member or agent of the university which is directly related to a student.  FERPA further delineates types of student records and a custodian responsible for the privacy of those records. 

Types of student records and their CSUSM custodians listed in the CSUSM FERPA policy and procedures:

  • Academic Records:  Custodian is the Director of Registration and Records/Registrar
  • Discipline Records:  Custodian is the Dean of Students
  • Financial Aid Records:  Custodian is the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships
  • Career Placement Records:  Custodian is the Director of the Career Center
  • Student Employment Records:  Custodian is the Director of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity
  • Public Safety Records:  Custodian is the Chief of University Police
