Outstanding GEW
Student of the Month
May 2018
GEW Student of the Month for
May 2018:
Trevor Abel
Trevor Abel, from Janette Larson's class, interviewed by Janette Larson
Question: Tell me a little about yourself.
Answer: I like working on cars and I also like going to concerts.
Question: Why do you like working on cars?
Answer: Every piece needs to work in order for the car to function properly. When
you're working on a car, it can be like a puzzle to find what’s wrong with a car and
I like that.
Question: What is your major? Why did you decide on this major?
Answer: Communications. I want to work in promotions and manage social media for breweries
and restaurants, as well as put on events. You need the right type of communication
and for it to be effective.
Question: How do you see GEW helping you in your career?
Answer: Writing skills are used in everything! I’ll be writing a ton of emails, proposals,
flyers. GEW is helping me develop a professional tone in my writing. I know how to
adapt my writing for an audience now.
Question: What have you enjoyed about GEW this semester?
I have enjoyed the daily journals, where we write informally at the start of class
in response to some questions. It's a designated time to just focus on writing.
Question: What is one piece of advice you would give a future GEW student?
Answer: Plan ahead. Don’t wait until the last possible moment. Life will throw things
at you. So, assume you won’t have as much time as you think you do.
