Global Competency Certificate

The Global Competency Professional Development Certificate is a non-credit, semester-long certificate that provides CSUSM students with the opportunity to address global issues and attain proficiency in global competency. The certificate is open to all CSUSM students.

Through the introduction of strategies that promote international awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, students will develop skill sets that will give them a global advantage in their future careers. As global challenges become more complex, university-wide initiatives such the Global Commitment Committee are dedicated to preparing students to work harmoniously with other institutions on campus, coordinate efforts on the internationalization of campus events, and create opportunities for their global competency skills to flourish.

Fall 2026

The Global Commitment Committee is excited to announce the Global Competency Certificate for this semester. This year we're focusing on Shared Worlds Across Borders: Global Activism and Art and hope that you'll join us!

To earn your Global Commitment Certificate, you need to:

  1. Submit the registration form to indicate you will work to earn the certificate,
  2. Attend/complete 7 of the 9 categories/items. Out of the 7 categories/items you complete, at least 2 must be CORE EVENTS: the Global Conversations Event (#5 in the table below), the GCC film screening and discussion (#6 below) and the Career Workshop Event (#8) are Core Events. For events 7a-b choose one (you may, but do not need to attend both).  Submit a check-in form after each event you attend/do.
  3. You will also be required to complete an exit reflection at the end of the semester that discusses the knowledge, skills, and abilities you gained as a participant in the certificate program. This does not count as an "attended event".
