Federal Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA)

The SCHA (Public Law 118-173) requires institutions to publish hazing incidents and policies on their websites and include hazing incidents in the ASR.

CSUSM Findings

Below we publish, for each student organization with a hazing finding: name of the organization, a general description of the violation, and key dates (incident, investigation start, finding issued, notice date).

Date of Hazing Incident: Spring 2025 Date Reported: March 4, 2025 Dates of Investigation: March 7, 2025 - March 27, 2025 Date of Responsible Finding: April 11, 2025 Sanction(s): University Probation with Stipulations through December 31, 2026. Termination of Membership for Involved Members. National organization appointment of volunteer to conduct oversight of new member program. Social probation. Summary of Findings: Following an investigation conducted by the University and the national organization, the University and national organization found sufficient evidence to support that the organization engaged in the followihg hazing behaviors: New member educators conducted hazing related activities that included interviews, assignments to be completed on certain days, asking new members to wear specific attire, having to record dances or weather reports, and expecting items to be in one's possession. New member educators had free will to decide on activities for new members, and the executive board officers were aware of those activities without intervening to stop the hazing. The new member copmleted the activities listed in the report and saw it as tradition and bonding experience.
