2026 HSI Summit

This year’s theme, Seeds of  Servingness: Growing Together, celebrates the relationships, commitments, and collective efforts that have taken root across our campus community.

Inspired by the idea that seeds carry the promise of growth and transformation, this year's summit will encourage participants to nurture practices grounded in servingness and cultivate new possibilities for student success at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Sessions and networking opportunities will provide space to reflect on the roots of this work and envision new ways to build more equitable and inclusive institutions.

• Keynote Speaker

  

  Dr. Daniel G. Solórzano

  We were excited to welcome nationally renowned scholar and educator Dr. Daniel Solórzano as the keynote speaker at that year’s summit. He is a Distinguished Professor of Social Science and Comparative Education and Chicana/o and Central American Studies at UCLA, where he served as the inaugural director of the Center for Critical Race Studies in Education. For many scholars, educators, and practitioners whose work centered Latinx students and students of color, Dr. Solórzano’s scholarship had been foundational.

  Through more than 100 publications, collectively cited more than 50,000 times, he has helped shape how we understand critical race theory in education, racial microaggressions and microaffirmations, and educational access and equity. Throughout a career spanning more than five decades, he has taught across the California Community Colleges, California State University, and University of California systems. He is also a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and an elected member of the National Academy of Education. 

  We were honored to welcome Dr. Solórzano as part of a day of learning, reflection, and connection focused on how Hispanic-Serving Institutions could advance student success.

2025 HSI Summit

• Theme: In Community, In Continuity: Sustaining Servingness through Collective Responsibility

Servingness goes beyond HSI status—it is an ongoing practice and a shared responsibility taken up within each campus and, at times, collectively across institutions and communities. In a time of shifting priorities and new challenges, this summit invited us to reflect, recommit, and rise together. Through powerful dialogue, shared practices, and bold visioning, we explored how each of us—faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community partners—can sustain a thriving HSI that centers the success and lived experiences of our students.

  Dr. Anne-Marie Núñez

  We were honored to welcome Dr. Anne-Marie Núñez as the keynote speaker for the 2025 HSI Summit. Dr. Núñez is a nationally recognized scholar and thought leader whose work has transformed how we understand and advance the success of Hispanic-Serving Institutions and the diverse students they serve. As the inaugural Executive Director of the Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success at The University of Texas at El Paso, she brings a powerful vision for equity, access, and innovation in higher education.
