Building on the national observance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Week, CSUSM is proud to present its inaugural HSI Week. Beginning with the 5th Annual HSI Summit and helping launch CSUSM’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the week invites students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to participate in events that deepen understanding of CSUSM’s role as an HSI, strengthen connections, and advance inclusive excellence and student success.

This year’s summit theme, Seeds of Servingness: Growing Together, celebrates the relationships, commitments, and collective efforts that have taken root across our campus community. Inspired by the idea that seeds carry the promise of growth and transformation, this year's summit will encourage participants to nurture practices grounded in servingness and cultivate new possibilities for student success at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Sessions and networking opportunities will provide space to reflect on the roots of this work and envision new ways to build more equitable and inclusive institutions.

Floreciendo Juntos serves as the official kickoff to Latine Heritage Month, bringing together students, campus partners, and the broader community in celebration of the diverse cultures, histories, and traditions of Latin America. The celebration features interactive cultural activities facilitated by Latine student organizations, cultural food, entertainment, and community-building opportunities that promote belonging, cross-cultural learning, and meaningful engagement.

These recommendations are derived from data collected through the 2025 Campus Climate Survey. Join us to celebrate and learn more about the Milpa Project. Located in CSUSM’s Community Ethnobotany Garden, the project centers on milpa, a Mesoamerican agricultural practice in which crops such as corn, beans, and squash are grown together. A brief presentation will introduce the project and its cultural, ecological, and community significance, followed by reflections from students involved in the project and Milpa Comunidad. Come connect, learn, and celebrate the students and community members who bring the Milpa to life.

Attendees will also learn about graduate education opportunities at CSUSM and how pursuing an advanced degree can support their academic, professional, and career goals. This event is open to all CSUSM students and alumni.
