Overview

The Social Justice Scholar program is an intimate group of undergraduate students who are eager to engage and learn about social justice orientated practices and actions. Social Justice Scholars will participate in intensive biweekly workshop series designed to stimulate critical thinking surrounding oppression and injustices, various approaches to advocacy and activism, and self-development to better scholars.

Being part of this cohort, students will:

  • Examine one’s identities and biases in relation to power and oppression in society
  • Engage in different perspectives and identities while challenging the dominant narrative to navigate difficult conversations
  • Develop relationships with social justice-oriented community organizations and people
  • Apply key social justice concepts to academic coursework, personal projects, and self-development

MISSION

The mission of the Social Justice Scholar program aims to provide students with the awareness, knowledge and skills to develop their leadership identity through a social justice framework in order to empower others to create inclusive and culturally competent solutions to address social inequities. The Social Justice Scholar program seeks to contribute to the creation of a broader undergraduate social justice community at CSUSM.
