Frequently Asked Questions

The following Frequently Asked Questions are based on various topics related to the Social Justice Summit (SJS). If you are confused about any topic and your questions are not addressed here, feel free to email us.

  • When is the Social Justice Summit?

    October 18-20, 2019. The summit begins Friday, October 18 at 1:00PM. We encourage you to make the necessary arrangements to be on time or let faculty know you will be missing class.

  • Who may attend?

    The Social Justice Summit is open for undergraduate students enrolled at least part time at Cal State University San Marcos. Priority is given to students who have not previously attended the summit. Returners may be accepted as space allows. Students who are interested in returning to take a leadership role are encouraged to apply to be facilitators.

  • How much does it cost to attend?
    We require a $15 non-refundable fee to hold your spot. The cost covers room, food, transportation, and all materials provided during the summit.
  • How do I register?
    Registration for 2019 opens on August 26 online
  • Do I need to commit to the whole weekend?
    Yes! Only students who can attend the entire summit, including overnight, are eligible for participation. There is limited space available, so all participants must be commited to taking advantage of all that SJS offers. Should you register and not attend, your $15 will not be refunded. 
  • Will transportation be provided?
    Transportation is provided by bus and will depart from the University Student Union. We encourage you to be dropped off or purchase the appropriate parking permit should you choose to park on campus. If you have questions about transportation please email us
  • What food will be provided?

    Registered participants will be provided the following meals: Friday - dinner; Saturday - breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Sunday - breakfast. Dietary accommodations and allergies must be specified on the registration form. We will do our best to accommodate but may not be able to fulfill all requests.

    Participants are encouraged to bring snacks and a reuseable water bottle.

  • Will there be gender neutral restrooms?
    Gender neutral restrooms are available in the private rooms. 
  • Will there be ADA accommodations?
    All ADA accomodations will be provided with advance notice and request. To request accomodations, email us
  • Will I be sharing a room with someone?
    Yes, all participants share a room with no more than four other students (up to 5 participants per room). Participants are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and any additional bedding needed. For questions or concerns about room arrangements, please email us or call 760.750.4958. 
  • How will roomates be assigned?
    Participants have an opportunity to provide roomate preferences when applying. Efforts will be made to accommodate but are not guaranteed. The SJS is a great opportunity to challenge yourself to grow and meet new people.
