Bereavement/Funeral Leave

The CSU Bereavement Leave Policy provides paid time off for the purposes of preparing, attending and/or traveling to a funeral for the employee's immediate family or close relative.

For additional guidance, including the definition of "Immediate" family and/or close relatives, please refer to the appropriate collective bargaining unit agreements and/or your HR Analyst.

Leave Eligibility/Guidelines

Employee Category Number of Paid Days and Guidelines
Physicians (Unit 1) Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative.
CSUEU (Unit 2,5,7,9) Five (5) days for an immediate family member.
Faculty (Unit 3) Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member.
Academic Support (Unit 4) Five (5) days with pay for each death of a significantly close person.
Skilled Trades (Unit 6) Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative or immediate
family member. Restrictions appy to hourly employees.
Public Safetly (Unit 8) Five (5) days for an immediate family member.
IUOE (Unit 10) Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative, or
domestic partner.
Academic Student Employee
(Unit 11)
Two (2) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member, or
three (3) days with pay if travel of over 500 miles is required.
Confidential (C99) Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or
significantly close relative.
Management Personnel Plan (MPP)
(M80)
Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or
significantly close relative.
Excluded (E99, Police Officer
Cadet only)
Two (2) days for each death of an immediate family member.
All Other Excluded (E99) Not available to employees within this employee category.
