'Work From Home' Email Scam

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Another of these “work from home” email scams is being sent to CSUSM students today. These scams try to get students to agree to “work” for them. Don’t reply to these unsolicited job offers. The scheme will go something like this:

1. They send you a check and ask you to deposit it in your bank account.
2. They ask you to spend some of that money on various things.
3. After you do that, they stop payment on their check.
4. You are responsible for paying out all the money you spent on their behalf.

Several of our students have fallen victim to this. Don’t be fooled by these scams. Today’s message has gone to 750 students (so far) and might come from a different sender. For more info, contact the Information Security Team at infosec@csusm.edu.
