In 2019, The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have designated CSUSM as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education for the M.S. Cybersecurity program. This designation uses frameworks including the U.S. National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Cybersecurity Workforce Framework and requirements of the NSA and DHS National Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cyber Defense and Cyber Operations to evaluate both a cybersecurity program and the institution that offers it.
